Cass Art, the UK’s leading independent art supplies retailer, will open its doors in Brighton this month. The new store is on Market Street in the historic Lanes, a magnet for locals and tourists alike.
This is the first Cass Art shop to open by the seaside in the South, since CEO & Founder Mark Cass opened his first shop in London in 1984. Their mission, ‘Let’s Fill this Town with Artists’, is at the heart of everything they do. The launch of their shop in Brighton is an exciting step in opening affordable art shops across the country.
“This is our 10th shop in the UK and our most exciting new store opening yet,” says Mark Cass. “Brighton is bursting with a brilliant and vibrant artist community, arts festival, as well as a hub of creative businesses. We have had customers asking us to open up in Brighton for many years, and we are excited to be in the Lanes in the heart of it all.”
But what makes Cass Art different to other art shops? The ultimate difference is that Cass Art is about art for all; about engaging with artists and novices alike and inspiring everyone to make and do art.
Cass Art is earnest about their involvement in the art world. They support both local and national galleries with art materials and educational events, including the Fourth Plinth School’s Awards in London and the Sky Arts series Portrait Artist of the Year and Landscape Artist of the Year. Cass Art has already partnered with local Brighton artist Jake Spicer for many years – getting Cass Art customers drawing across the country, and with a regular drawing class at the London flagship in Islington.
Spicer says “…access to a wide range of artists’ quality materials has always required a train ride and a lot of expense and it will be great to see those barriers to creativity removed. Cass Art’s famous slogan is ‘Lets Fill This Town With Artists’, but Brighton is already a town full of artists; we’ve just been waiting for the right art shop!”
Cass Art’s belief is that everyone can join in with art-marking, no matter their age or ability. Cass Art’s support extends beyond the materials in their shops with How To blogs and videos on their website and newsletter. What’s more, their shopping experience is unique worldwide. As with all of its stores, the Brighton shop is based on designs developed by world renowned design agency Pentagram, to make browsing for art materials a simple and enjoyable experience. Cass Art also has an added personal touch. All their staff are artists themselves so that they are able to offer expert advice on any creative project. Whether it’s an artistic bit of homework or a professional technique, they’re happy to give guidance and welcome any questions that come their way. They are also committed to bringing the world’s best art materials at the guaranteed lowest prices, with a price promise to match. Finally, Cass Art has two programmes that make art even more affordable for those who sustain art as a force in society: art students and artist educators. Cass Art supports students with the Cobalt Blue card and artist educators with the Viridian card, offering them exclusive discounts, inspiration and events.
As of February 2016, all other customers over 18 years’ old are eligible for a Cass Art Rewards card – that gives customers a £10 Reward for every £100 they spend at Cass Art, as well as exclusive offers and events. The Rewards card will be available at Cass Art Brighton.
Cass Art opens on Saturday 20th February.
