Art on show in Brighton & Hove and Sussex

Art Show: ONE PLANET CITY ** 1 Oct 2014 – 31 Jul 2015 ** Brighton and Hove

FotoDocument is a unique not-for-profit arts education organisation that brings visibility to positive social and environmental initiatives around the world through the powerful medium of world-class documentary photography installed in high-profile public spaces. FotoDocument commissions professional photographers to produce extended photo essays in order to inspire, engage and effect behaviour change.

About the Project

flower Brighton & Hove was accredited as the world’s first One Planet City in 2013.
Selected and commissioned from an open call by FotoDocument, ten emerging and established photographers have created ten photo essays in response to each of the ten principles of One Planet Living, a sustainability framework created by Bioregional and adopted by the city of Brighton & Hove.

ONE PLANET CITY launched as part of the 2014 Brighton Photo Biennial.

The exhibitions are installed in key public spaces across the city and remain in situ for ten months. Each venue is semantically linked to the individual One Planet Living principle it is hosting and the ten inter-related exhibitions are best viewed as an arts trail around the city.

The works have been made over the summer of 2014 with the support of environmental experts from Bioregional, Brighton & Hove City Council and other partner organisations. The photographers have also been supported by artistic mentors throughout this project.

The brief has been interpreted by each artist in a unique way, resulting in ten distinct exhibitions.

The project has been conceived, commissioned and curated by FotoDocument in partnership with Photoworks and Bioregional and is supported by Arts Council England.
