The first large-scale solo exhibition of Brighton based artist, Sophie Dickson is coming to Circus Street Market. Junk is Beautiful will exhibit a range of drawings, paintings and large wooden audience participation installations. Talking about her work, Sophie says:

The practice of ‘playing’ contributes greatly to my work, playing with materials and how I added them to the painting. I use boot polish, plastic bags and metal paint, among other materials to construct different characteristics and textures….

A visual collage of images, writings and objects in a singular piece has become a common feature in my work. Loading the canvas with different materials and everyday three-dimensional objects to form a crossbreed; part painting, part sculpture….
