Art Show: Sarah Shaw – Shift ** 6-28 Jun 2015 ** Ink_d, Brighton
‘Shift’, the new body of work Sarah Shaw has produced, contains a wonderful selection of smaller studies and some of the largest canvases she has even worked on. As the title suggests the show has a shifting aspect in both the imagery as well as the material qualities of the work. Following her ‘Wanderlust’ show the work explores similar themes but has moved into depiction of the figure more strongly than in previous work. As the artist suggests ‘…I have always searched for that indefinite line between abstraction and figuration.’ The work also shows some of the resent highs and lows she has experienced in her studio as she battles some large canvas and many requests for her work from galleries and private collectors.
