Call for entries: ART & DESIGN STUDENT COMPETITION ** deadline 1 Apr 2015 ** Art in Action

 

Art in Action & Wesley-Barrell are offering £1,500 worth of prizes and the opportunity to exhibit work and to demonstrate their practice at an internationally renowned event.

 

WESLEY-BARRELL

Wesley-Barrell is a family-run business, making upholstered furniture using traditional craft skills in their Oxfordshire workshops The Wesley-Barrell biannual Craft Awards were introduced in 2006 to encourage, support and recognise the wealth of craft talent that exists in the UK.

Since their inception, the Wesley-Barrell Awards has become established as an important event in the craft calendar, boasting a history of spotting the rising stars of the craft world.

Wesley-Barrell is delighted to join forces with Art in Action in a new initiative sponsoring a student competition open to all art school students across all disciplines of art and craft.

 

ART IN ACTION

At Art in Action, professional artists and crafters have been demonstrating the creative process for over 30 years. They work in marquees in the beautiful grounds of Waterperry House in Oxfordshire.

In 2015, over 150 artists will be demonstrating; Painters, Ceramicists, Sculptors, Illustrators, Calligraphers, Glassblowers, Printmakers, Woodworkers, Smiths and Jewellers. Each year, the public come to watch and converse with the artists.

There will be music, dance, lectures, storytelling, a large Crafts Market, and art classes for all ages. Around 25,000 visitors are expected.

The work is of outstanding quality and people who have been to Art in Action say the show has a fantastic atmosphere and that the organisation is exemplary.

 

Who can Enter?

Students can apply if they are:

Studying within one or more of the following disciplines: Calligraphy, Ceramics, Drawing, Glass, Illustration, Metalwork, Jewellery, Painting, Printmaking, Textiles, Sculpture and Woodwork. (We are unable, this year, to accommodate Photography, Video, Performance, Installation or Digital media).

Enrolled, full-time or part-time, on a Bachelors, Masters or PHD course at a UK Art, design or craft School, College or University.

Please include up to 3 jpeg which includes your name, title, medium and dimensions (cm) of the work/s in the file name. You can use these 3 images as you wish e.g. send images of 3 different art/design pieces or 3 different images of the same piece. All images must be 300dpi.

We do not require your CV or artists statement. All artwork will be anonymised before the selectors view the work in order to ensure fairness based on the quality of the work alone.

We do not require an entry fee.

 

The Prizes

Three winners will be selected, each of whom will receive a £500 prize and be granted a place in the Newcomers Section at Art in Action 2015 (16-19 July) to demonstrate their art or craft over the four days of the show.
