For Fabrica’s exhibition in Autumn 2014, artist Simon Faithfull is making a new work called REEF, which will also form part of Brighton Photo Biennial 2014.
For REEF Simon has sunk a boat at the end of its working life off the coast of Southern England to create a new artificial reef. Five cameras placed on the boat will capture its transformation and report back as the boat slowly transforms. You can see the live stream from the cameras at our dedicated project website – http://reeflive.org/
This is a complex and highly collaborative project, which has involved the input of many people and organisations and has been co-commissioned by Fabrica and Photoworks, in partnership with Musée des Beaux Arts, Calais and the FRAC Basse Normandie Caen.Live Broadcast by Field Broadcast. Underwater transmission by Art AV. Made possible by O Three, Wreck to Reef, Quest Marine, Ringstead Caravan Park and Dorset County Council. The exhibition will be part of the activity of our European-funded project Time and Place. ‘Changing landscapes’ is one of the major themes of the project, exploring environmental and social aspects of landscapes. This new exhibition will sit in that strand of the project.
