Brighton Photo Fringe invites applications for OPEN 2014, an open submission solo exhibition opportunity for an emerging to mid-career photographer or lens based artist.OPEN 2014 will be the keynote exhibition of BPF14 and will run in parallel to the internationally acclaimed Brighton Photo Biennial. In 2012 both festivals attracted over 100,000 visitors and received significant press coverage. Now in its sixth year, the OPEN has consistently presented some of the most exciting photography of our time. We receive submissions from all over the world. In 2013 we presented six artists from over 350 submissions including Jo Metson Scott UK, Julia Romano Argentina, Liane Lang UK, Simon Ward UK, Nick Ballon UK and Ji Yeo USA. In 2012, for our festival year, the solo exhibition was awarded to Jinkyun Ahn, a young Korean artist who had just graduated from the Royal College of Art. Jinkyun went on to be selected for Fresh Faced and Wild Eyed at The Photographers’ Gallery, London, for Belfast Photo Festival 2013 and for FOAM Talent. Previous winners include Sarah Pickering and Stuart Griffiths.
For this year OPEN14 – 100 long listed artists will be listed on our website and projected at our Launch Party on 4 October 2014. – 20 short listed artists will have a selected image displayed prominently at a BPF Hub.- One lucky artist will be offered a solo exhibition in the beautiful and unique Regency Town House, with an artist’s fee of £500 and print costs covered by Metro Imaging. This year, as a new challenge, OPEN14 will be shown in the historic Regency Town House, Brunswick Square, an impressive partly restored historic home from the 1820s. During the Regency period, Brighton enjoyed an unrivalled status as the provincial capital of fashionable British society and was one of Europe’s foremost seaside spas. The house is typical of the era and is located in one of Brighton & Hove’s most beautiful seafront squares.We will be looking for an artist who will relish the challenge of showing their work in this extraordinary historic building.
