Jerwood Gallery

The award-winning Jerwood Gallery, situated next to the fishing beach in Hastings’ historic Old Town, is the home for the Jerwood Collection of 20th and 21st century art and changing contemporary exhibition programme.

Displayed in seven collection rooms, the Jerwood Collection comprises of paintings as well as works on paper and prints by British artists working between the First World War and the 1960s. The collection includes works by well-known artists including Sir Stanley Spencer, Lawrence Stephen Lowry, Walter Sickert and Augustus John.

Jerwood Gallery has a diverse temporary exhibition programme, which showcases the best modern and contemporary British art. The exhibitions, which change quarterly, are displayed in the gallery’s Foreshore Gallery on the ground floor.

The gallery café, Webbe\’s at Jerwood, overlooks the fishing beach, has an outside sun terrace and offers panoramic views of the coastline. It’s a fantastic location for a coffee, lunch or afternoon tea. The shop stocks a broad selection of books for all tastes and ages relating to art, architecture and the artists who feature in the Jerwood Collection. We also stock a bespoke range of gifts, eco-friendly stationery, postcards and products related to current exhibitions. You can visit the shop anytime without paying admission to the gallery.

Opening Times

Please note that the gallery is closed for exhibition turnover and maintenance from Thursday 9 – Friday 31 January 2014. 

Standard opening hours:

Tuesday-Friday 11am-5pm
Saturday- Sunday 11am-6pm
Closed Mondays (with the exception of Bank Holiday Mondays and during East Sussex school holidays)

Extended opening hours operate during East Sussex school holidays

First Tuesdays: on the first Tuesday of each month entry is free from 4-8pm.
