May is usually a busy time for Brighton’s artists and performers with the Artist Open Houses, Fringe, Festival and Great Escape all coming up; such large and public events now seem like a strange dream. Well, somnambulists that we are, we’re keeping active during this period of cultural hibernation and over the past month we’ve assessed how Draw can continue to full fill its duty to the community – connecting people, keeping artists & models in work and providing affordable drawing education to al of you at home. With the invaluable support of our patrons on Patreon we are putting together an expanding online programme of life drawing resources.
Draw Patreon
The Draw Patreon now contains a substantial library of drawing reference and blog posts that we are adding to weekly – it will be our main platform for providing materials and paying our team until we are able to re-open. This month we’re excited to be able to offer some bonus photo-sets and free online life classes for patrons; in June we’ll be releasing the first issue of the Draw Journal, posting printed copies out to all of our Patreon Patrons and in June/July we’ll be releasing our first video-based drawing courses. You can support the Patreon from just £3 per month and you’ll receive everything we create for £25 per month (less than a full day of life drawing in real life). Here’s what we’ve been doing with the money…
With our Patreon income and other donations this month we have:
- Paid a share of £3200 to 9 freelance tutors, commissioning new blogs and artwork.
- Paid a share of £3800 of 28 life models including new paid work like the photoshoots, cancelation fees for pre-booked models and emergency aid payments for models unable to afford food and basic living costs in March.
- Commissioned over £1400 of original artwork and writing for the Draw Journal
Thank you for your support and kindness. I am getting to draw plenty here at home at the moment – the things I miss most is seeing all of you lot.
