The May 2018 Artists Open houses Festival will run weekends 5th-28th May
Pick up a brochure at: Brighton and Hove train stations, libraries, museums, tourist information centres and, from the start of the festival, at all Open House venues.
This May over 200 artists’ homes and studios are opening their doors to exhibit work from over 1,000 artists and makers in Brighton and Hove, reaching from Portslade to Kemptown, out to Rottingdean, Newhaven and the South Downs village of Ditchling.
Plan your visit around the 13 individual trails shown on the AOH website, or take your pick from the wealth of Open Houses on offer.
Visiting Open Houses offers the chance meet the artists and to buy work directly from them. The hugely diverse range of artwork on show includes original paintings, prints, graffiti arts, ceramics and textiles, as well as photography, sculpture, crafts, jewellery and many other media.
The Artists Open Houses is an inclusive open-to-all event, welcoming participation from all areas of the community, including community groups, marginalized, school and college student artists.
Entry to the houses is free and many Open Houses also offer the opportunity to get involved, providing workshops and events for both adults and children. With homemade tea and cake on offer too, the Artists Open Houses are a very special weekend treat.
Opening times
Most Open Houses are open May weekends from 11.00-17.00, but opening times may vary from venue, to so it is best to check individual brochure listings. Some venues are also open on weekdays and many open for both May Bank Holiday Mondays.
