Created over a period of five years, in all weathers and in all seasons, Restless is a photographic documentary of the conflicting moods and ever-changing faces of our marine landscape. From raging tempest to serene moments of becalmed tranquility, the collective images John Brockliss has assembled for his latest exhibition and book share with us the timeless and unparalleled beauty of the ocean.
Throughout his life John has been summoned by the call of the sea. His images, many of which are taken at sea or in the face of raging storms, are a personal exploration of vast spaces, untamed power and sublime light. Restless is a photographic celebration of the majesty, the power and tantalising beauty of the sea.
Born in 1950, John is a UK photographer specialising in maritime, documentary and reportage photography. After studying photography, fine art and graphic design he graduated as a graphic designer in 1972 and over 40 years has worked with some of the most eminent creative minds of his generation.
Having commissioned and art directed photographers throughout his design career John now dedicates his creative energies to his own photographic projects, working exclusively with Leica rangefinder cameras and available light.
The exhibition runs until April 16th 2016.
35 North Contemporary Fine Art, 35 North Road, Brighton, BN1 1YB.
