Art on show in Brighton & Hove and Sussex

Art Show: Intuitive Visions ** 3-31 May 2015 ** Phoenix Brighton

Featuring work by: Aradne, John Ackhurst, Blair McCormick, Jonathan Kenneth William Pettitt, Luc RS, Martin Phillimore, Michelle Roberts, Paul Bellingham and Sally Ward. Curated by Katy Norris, Assistant Curator at Pallant House.

An exhibition featuring vibrant and visionary work by artists who work outside the arts mainstream. Phoenix Brighton is working in partnership with Outside In and HOUSE to host this special exhibition for the May festival in Brighton.

Providing a platform for artists who define themselves as facing barriers to the art world due to health, disability or social circumstance, Outside In has been building links with Brighton’s HOUSE Festival, developing the presence of Outside In and the artists they represent each year. 2015 will see the first partner project between Outside In, HOUSE and Phoenix Brighton, bringing a new dimension to the Festival.

In January and February 2015 there was an open call for Outside In artists based in East Sussex to submit work for possible inclusion in the exhibition.

Five Brighton-based selectors chose the final works to be included in the exhibition, bearing in mind the overall theme of HOUSE 2015: ‘Edge, Shift and Marginality.’ The selectors included: Judy Stevens, the co-Director of HOUSE Festival; David Jones, a Brighton-based Outside In Award Winning artist; Simon Powell, Co-Founder of Creative Future, a Brighton-based organisation nurturing marginalised artists and writers in their creative development; Karin Mori, Artistic Programme Manager at Phoenix Brighton; and Jim Sanders, a Brighton-based contemporary artist.
