Art Show: Mine, but not yet whole – Lauren Pennycott ** 10-18 Apr 2015 ** 35 North Contemporary Fine Art, Brighton
This month the gallery is delighted to introduce the work of artist Lauren Pennycott who will be exhibiting at 35 North Contemporary Fine Art for two weeks only from Friday 10th April through to Saturday 18th April 2015.
Originally from Brighton, Lauren is currently based in London studying for her BA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art. Lauren was previously a student at Varndean Sixth Form College before completing her Art Foundation at Brighton City College in 2013.
For Lauren, the act of painting has become an increasingly intimate process and she is currently investigating ways in which painting in the first person might be possible. Fired by an interest in the literal and poetic space between individuals – be they people or painted forms – as well as the subtleties of tension between them, Lauren’s non-figurative entities in this series of acrylic paintings on paper and canvas are the result of her working ruminations.
Lauren has written for London based online magazine The Upcoming reviewing exhibitions. She has a keen interest in the current state of art criticism in the blogging and unpaid press culture and the role it is playing in shaping work, particularly that of young artists.
Lauren will be hosting a Q & A in the gallery on Saturday 11th April.

35 North Contemporary Fine Art is located at 35 North Road in the heart of Brighton’s North Laine. The gallery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11am – 5.30pm. For this exhibition only the gallery will additionally be open on Wednesday 15th April.
