Jamie McCartney opens Goldstone Gallery in Hove on Friday 14th November at 76 Goldstone Villas, BN3 3RU – just down from Hove station. Opening party – 11am-8pm.
Notorious local artist, Jamie McCartney, is opening a new art gallery in Hove this weekend. With his new workshop, Studio 88, just around the corner at 88 Ethel Street, Jamie is single handedly transforming the area into a new artist’s quarter.
Art Gallery and Framing Shop – 15 super talented local artists will show at this inaugural show which has been a two way curatorial collaboration between Jamie and Oskar Doughty of Pug Framing who has set up his new framing shop inside Goldstone Gallery. Bring your artworks or buy from the gallery and they’ll frame them on site. “A one-stop-shop for all your fine art needs”. Jamie McCartney
With a combination of original oil paintings and sculptures along with open and limited edition prints and photography as well as gift cards, mugs and artist’s merchandising the gallery offers something for everyone with artwork prices from £50 to several thousand pounds.
Deputy curator Natalie Cowley (who also curates the shows at Ground Coffee, Hove and public art events for Saints of the Lot) also exhibits her work at the show, as does Jamie, so it’s a gallery run by artists and arts professionals who know the Brighton art scene inside out.
A new showroom for Brighton Body Casting – Also within Goldstone Gallery in the new showroom for Jamie’s highly successful body casting business. Having moved his operation to Brighton from London in 2006, the rebranded Brighton Body Casting has been located at the JAG Gallery, then in Ship Street Gardens and now in this huge and bright new Hove gallery. Jamie has grown his body casting business to become the most visible and successful in the UK and quite possibly the world. Clients visit from all over the world for his unique body portrait sculpture service, created from moulds taken directly from the body. Brighton Body Casting won the Creative Industry BAHBA in 2009 and is the top hit on google.
Regeneration Story – Goldstone Villas is seeing huge transformation from a scruffy approach to Hove station to a new and upcoming high street with Small Batch Coffee, Wolfie’s fish and chips, now Goldstone Gallery and also a micro-brewery in the planning stages. Finally it’s a row of shops Hove can be proud of. They have opened just in time for the crucial Christmas market and hope to draw new visitors to the area. With that in mind they have joined the Hove Business Association’s Stamp and Win Christmas Shopping Trail, in which Christmas shoppers collect stamps from all the shops they visit to win prizes.
