Current Opportunities
Join ONCA’s board of Trustees
The ONCA Trust is a charity that explores the changing environment through art, education and creativity. We foster and inspire artists to work with environmental issues, and it is our aim for creative practice to be at the forefront of conversations about human and global sustainability, whilst also aiding communities to learn about and understand the changing planet.
Our multi-disciplinary gallery is a hub for art/science exhibitions, research and participation. This month, we celebrate two years in our current central Brighton location. Our dedicated and talented team of staff, trustees and patrons have helped make ONCA what it is, and we remember some of our achievements including over 20,000 visitors to the gallery, a successful £15,000 crowdfunding campaign, and exhibitions with both emerging and world renowned artists that have highlighted such issues as overuse of plastics and biodiversity loss. We have sailed to the North Atlantic to study cetaceans, and this month we are heading across the Atlantic to highlight toxins in the oceans. In the words of two of ONCA’s patrons, Caroline Lucas and Robert Macfarlane, the gallery is “a wonderfully creative space for exploration and reflection”, that “brings together communities in open-hearted and mind-altering ways”.
At this time, we are poised to enter a new and exciting phase in our development, and are seeking to recruit up to four new Trustees, including a Chair, to support us in this journey.
We are looking for individuals with a passion for arts and ecology, plus a range of skills and experience that may include fundraising, academia, advocacy, and branding, as well as access to influential national and international networks. Applicants for the position of Chair must have previous board experience, and experience in the role of Chair would be welcome.
Trustees are expected to commit to quarterly meetings, plus approximately one additional day per month, in return for the opportunity to work with the UK’s only gallery and performance space dedicated to ecology and the environment.
Please send expressions of interest, in the form of a short email outlining why you’d like to be involved and how you can support ONCA’s future, to Chloe Barker, ONCA Trustee at chloegudrun@live.co.uk
