Artists welcome: First Fridays ** 7 Mar 2014 ** Brighton Dome
On the first Friday of each month Brighton Dome welcomes artists in all disciplines to our Studio Bar to meet and share ideas. Each event features a special guest from the art world who offers a provocation which forms the basis of a discussion.
March’s guest speaker will be Ben Duke
Ben Duke is the Artistic Director of Lost Dog, whose work explores the overlap and transition between dance and theatre; the company blend text, live music and movement to create shows in which dance is framed by stories and characters.
Lost Dog’s work has toured nationally and internationally, was awarded first prize at the Burgos International Choreography competition, second prize at the prestigious Hanover choreography competition, and in 2011 won the Place Prize for Dance, sponsored by Bloomberg, with It Needs Horses. In May 2014, the Company will present their newest work, Like Rabbits at the Brighton Festival.
Ben trained at the Guildford School of Acting and London Contemporary Dance School. As a choreographer he has also created works for Scottish Dance Theatre, Phoenix Dance Theatre, the National Theatre of Scotland and the Gate Theatre. As a performer Ben has worked with Probe, Hofesh Shechter Company, National Theatre of Scotland, the Gate Theatre, Punchdrunk, Maresa von Stockert and Glyndebourne Opera.
We have an amazing community of artists in Brighton and it’s great to see this gathering grow each month and witness new ideas and relationships form.
