Art Schism, Brighton’s cooperative gallery with strong roots in street art, hosted a Valentine’s party last night that gave Sussex Artbeat a chance to catch up with the latest art on show, and to chat with some leading practitioners.
Daryl Bennett aka Sinna One, one of the founders or Art Schism, had a couple of pieces on show, and told us has recently completed two large murals in Brighton. One is on a wall outside the Brighton Hilton, and celebrates the Brighton Tattoo convention being held there this weekend, while the other is on the wall of Albert pub near Brighton Station, and will be opened at a reception at Art Schism next week. The mural launch private party, “Icons” will be held at Art Schism on Friday 21 February 5-8pm, moving on to the Albert 8pm-close.
Other artists on show included Justin Hopes, who demonstrated portrait painting in light, and the artist known as Req, who is known for large figure work in spray paint, including the one on the back of the Iambic Theatre.
Current exhibition lasts until 17 February 2014. For more information visit https://sussexartbeat.com/2014/01/30/art-exhibition-7-17-feb-2014-art-schism-brighton/ , http://www.artschism.net/events.html
