Professor Jan Staël von Holstein presents a discussion of contemporary Chinese culture, examining the differences between East and West and how such contrasts relate to design thinking.
Professor Jan Staël von Holstein is the founder and Chairman of The Network with a Silver Lining, with five partners around Europe and the USA. TM&N, Bamboo Communications in Hong Kong, CBI and PG Design & Branding in Shanghai and GroupV in Beijing, make up a strong presence in China.
He is a graduate of the Institute of Graphic Arts in Stockholm, and has spent more than forty-five years in the design business, working in Canada, the USA, Europe and Asia. He is now a world authority in Corporate and Brand Identity creation and Design Management.
He is currently Professor at The College of Design & Innovation,(D&I) Tongji University in Shanghai, Director of SIMTEC,where is also on the Advisory Board and a Council Board Member. He joined the faculty of The Institute of Design Knowledge in Hong Kong in 2012 and Hong Kong Polytechnic in 2014.
He lectures annually at The Central Academy of Fine Arts and is course professor at the Design Management Institute Tsinghua University in Beijing. He has developed and pioneered the first courses in China in design management and brand strategies. He is a frequent speaker at world events, covering a broad range of subjects, and speaks nine languages.
