Art on show in Brighton & Hove and Sussex

‘Beastie Toys – Urban Art Thing’ ** 29 Nov-23 Dec 2013 ** The Warehouse Gallery

Press Release

Beastie Toys – Urban Art Thing @ The Warehouse Gallery, Brighton
29 November – 23 December 2013 / Artists’ Open Houses
Private view: Friday 6 December, from 6.30pm until late

A group exhibition featuring the locally based street artists Zee Zee 22, Cassette Lord, Archi Ram andFunky Red Dog . It will also include work by several mystery artists.

The forthcoming, debut show will include canvases, prints, wall pieces and installations, such as Cassette Lord’s extraordinary ‘Cassettotron’. There will also be a series of special events at the gallery that form part of the show. Street art has developed into a multifaceted ʻmovementʼ, which has emerged out of the nervous energy of graffiti and stencilling, spray-can art, skateboard culture, music and urban fashion. Often a form of dissent and rebellion, street art has, not surprisingly, been regarded as unlawful in many organised communities, travelling a difficult road to the worldʼs art galleries. Early exponents of street art like Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat paved the way for the current wave of practitioners. The variety of work and techniques on display at the exhibition is a testament to this legacy, as well as the ways in which the work relates to the locality in the 21st century. The majority of the
pieces that will be on display will be for sale and are exclusive to The
Warehouse Gallery.
