Created quite quickly in response to the launch of a new Brighton gallery, this exhibition is largely but not exclusively a retrospective of the Petting Zoo’s output since 2008. In response to the request to assemble this host of work (including a few unseen rarities) the decision was made to release several new prints that perhaps help reveal the folly of pursuing this odd career; exposing the mindset of those who herd strange ideas that fall from their head, then cage and present them for sale to the public.
The new work will be revealed one day at a time, uniform in palette and size, until the first week is passed and the full series is laid bare – a catalogue of the artist’s foibles and vices; more “pitfalls of the ego” than tools of the trade.
The works will be hand-printed, of very exclusive edition sizes and, in the spirit of the Zoo’s quest for fun and frivolity, all priced “under a ton”.
